If the Smart Energy Solutions Program in Wood County continues, it will be run by the county itself

The county commission Thursday morning agreed to pay the existing bills from the current program, and later re-apply for grant money for it to continue for another year.

The program ran into problems this summer when it was learned County Commission President Wayne Dunn opened a private checking account with the grant money to operate it.

"Sometimes, I say writing the grant is the easiest part. Administering it and making sure you do what that grant agreement says is harder than actually writing it," says Toni Tiano, Wood County Grant Administrator.

The program uses WVU-P students to conduct energy efficiency surveys of Wood County homeowners.

Prosecutor Jason Wharton said it should have been operated through the county, rather than handled privately.
