Donald Glen Mercer, 84, of Vienna, W.Va. died Thursday, November 8, 2012 at Ohio State Medical Center, Columbus, Ohio. Don was born February 10, 1928 in Wood County, W.Va., a son of the late Glenn and Garnet Metcalf Mercer.
He had been employed at American Viscose for seventeen years and later retired from the American Red Cross, where he was responsible for veteran’s affairs. He had enjoyed volunteering with different organizations and especially enjoyed assisting with the bingo and popcorn when visiting at the Cedar Grove Personal Care Home. He had many special talents and enjoyed working with many different woodworking projects.
He was a faithful member of Fellowship Baptist Church at Vienna.
He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Mary Lou Smith Mercer; and by several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Charles.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Monday, November 12, 2012 at the Vaughan Funeral Home, 1010 Murdoch Avenue, Parkersburg, W.Va. Pastor Jon Lands will officiate and concluding services and interment will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Parkersburg. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday.
