Charles Griffin Johnson, 89, of Fleming, died Saturday, December 1, 2012, at Harmar Place.
He was born June 30, 1923 in Marietta to Thomas William and Martha Lenington Johnson. Charles was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving from 1943 to 1946. He was employed by Elkem Metals where he retired after many years of service. He was a member of the Tunnel United Methodist Church for many years.
Charles is survived by four sons and two daughters, Charles E. Johnson (Jacolyn) and William A. Johnson (Joyce) of Marietta, Donald L. Johnson (Liz) of Oviedo, FL, Gerald R. Johnson (Jo) of Mt. Pleasant, NC, Linda M. McKenzie (Bryan) of Marietta and Donna J. Carpenter (Arnold) of Dallison, WV, daughter in law, Vanessa Johnson, sister, Sue Stark of Orrville and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Belle Forester Johnson, son, Robert Griffin Johnson, great granddaughter, Trisha Murphy, three brothers, James, Ronald and Willard and one sister, Irene Kesterson.
Charles donated his body to the Ohio University Willed Body Program at Athens.
A memorial service will be held at the Tunnel United Methodist Church on St. Rt. 550, on Saturday, December 8, 2012, at 11:00 a.m., with the Rev. Richard Thomas officiating. There will be full military rites following the service at the church. Donations may be made to the Tunnel UMC, 65 Coffman Road, Marietta, OH 45750.
