Funeral Home: Leavitt Funeral Home

Berniece M. (Lambert) King, 85, formerly of 24th St., Parkersburg, entered into eternal life Monday, December 10, 2012. She was preceded in death by her husband Byron; brother Jimmy; step daughter Joyce (David) Shipman and step granddaughter Cindy Shipman; beloved granddaughter Emily Childers; and lifelong friend Marge Fuller.

Survivors include her two daughters, Brenda (William) Stacy of Ishpeming, MI, and Paula (Michael) Childers of Nashville, TN; step children Eloise (Gary) Johnson of Omaha, NE, and Dwight (Peggy) King of Spokane, WA; four grandchildren, Michael (Deidra), Stephen (Amanda), Sarah (Jason), and Julie (Benjamin); ten step grandchildren, Roy, Janice, Jacky, Dale, Tammy, Lawrence, Terrance, Cynthia, Kathleen, Laura, and Sandra, many great grandchildren and lifelong friends Marie Hill and Cleone Fansler.

Berniece was born February 26, 1927 in Upshur County, TX, the daughter of the late John and Runnie (Fitzgerald) Lambert. She married Byron E. King in 1948, celebrating 51 years of marriage. She grew up in Gregg County, TX, and attended Pinetree School in Greggton, TX. She worked as a waitress at various locations in Longview, TX. She attended Beauty School in Philadelphia, PA, and earned her Cosmetology License from the Pennsylvania Board of Cosmetology on November 13, 1963. After obtaining her Cosmetology License, she worked at Martha's Beauty Shop in Philadelphia, PA. She then worked in sales and as a supervisor and manager for The Diamond in Parkersburg, WV, from 1968 until her retirement in 1982. She was a devout member of Stout Memorial Methodist Church where she was a member of the Rebecca Circle and served in the nursery for 20 years. She was also a member of the Miriam Rebekah Lodge number 1 of the Odd Fellows where she was the Noble Grand and Treasurer. She was a member of Ladies Auxiliary Patriot Militant (LAPM) Lodge number 6 where she was President and Treasurer. Berniece loved dancing, bowling and reading in her spare time.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 20, 2012 from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, WV and again, at Stout Memorial United Methodist Church, Broad Street, on Friday, December 21, 2012 from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. The Friday morning visitation will be followed by the funeral service at 11:00 A.M. with the Rev. Paul Russell officiating. Interment will follow at Parkersburg Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Stout Memorial United Methodist Church.
