He was born in Webster Township, Michigan on March 23, 1917 the son of
the late Horace L. and Harriet L. Knight Alexander. He graduated from
Ann Arbor High School and the University Architectural School. He
entered the Army in August of 1942 and proudly served his country in
World War II. He was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, two Bronze
Stars and three Battle Stars.
Following his military service, Roland worked at a design engineer
firm serving the automobile industry. He designed automobile parts and
processed for the production line. He was an avid golfer, gifted
painter and enjoyed reading.
In retirement, he and his wife Carol spent winters in Florida and then
moved there in 2003, where he enjoyed the many golf corses. They
moved to Parkersburg in 2010 to be close to family due to health
reasons.
Roland is survived by his wife of 70 years Carol Elizabeth Harper
Alexander, a Parkersburg native, daughter Naomi Dixon of Parkersburg,
seven grandchildren including James Dixon, IV, Steve Dixon (Carol),
Sue Christman (Troy), several great grandchildren including Joey Dixon
(Julia) and one nephew.
In addition to his parents, Rolland was preceded in death by son
Gilbert Lemon, brother Llewellen Alexander, one grandson and one
granddaughter.
Following Roland’s request, he will be placed at Arlington National
Cemetery with Military Honors.

family.
