Ronnie Elwood Atkinson, 78, of Parkersburg, died July 14, 2013, at Camden Clark Medical Center.
Atkinson was a beloved and long-time professor at WVU-P and had served as chairman of the Social Sciences Division during that time.
He was born April 21, 1935, in Boissevain, VA, a son of the late Harry Elwood Atkinson and the late Hazel Frances (Webber) Atkinson.
He was a graduate of Gary High School and earned a Master’s Degree from Concord College. He was highly respected professor at Parkersburg Community College of 42 years.
He is survived by his wife, Grace Ann; four brothers, Kenny of Roanoke, VA; Mickey of Vinton, VA; Curtis of Ravenswood, WV; and Steve of Evans, WV; a brother-in-law, Daniel Farmer of Bluefield, WV; a sister-in-law, Betty Fuller and husband J.B Fuller of Mooreville, NC; one niece, Darlene Fuller; and five nephews, Daniel Farmer, Anthony Farmer, Timmy Fuller, J B Fuller Jr., and Jamie Fuller.
Funeral will be Thursday, July 18, 2013, at 11:00 a.m., at St Andrew's United Methodist Church, Parkersburg, with Pastor S.R. Parsons, Jr., officiating. Burial will be at Haw Orchard Cemetery, Rugby, VA. Friends may visit Thursday, July 18, 2013 from 9-11 a.m. at St Andrew's United Methodist Church.
