Barbara Ann Baker (Bobbie Jurden) of Marietta passed peacefully in the arms of her Angels on Wednesday, January 15, 2014. She was born December 16, 1934 in Churchtown to Howard & Ellen Schwendeman Jurden and attended St. Mary’s High School.

She married the late George Baker in 1953. They have 6 children, Richard Baker (Cheryl) of Lowell, Debbie Baker (Martha) of Marietta, Bruce Baker (Glenna) of Columbus , Brenda Baker and Pam Robertson of Marietta, and Angela Lockhart (Dennis) of Newark. Her family also includes eight grandchildren, Lindsey, Michal, Alex, Carli, Brent, Eric, Wes, and Bobby, eight great grandchildren, Hunter, Mackenzie, Zach, Hayleigh, Arianna, Hailey, Tyler and Nick, many nieces and nephews and four sisters, twin, Patty Dickson, Gladys Malone, Mae Lang and Priscilla Casto (Jack). Preceding her in death was a sister, Leona Nahass, a brother, Howard “Bud” Jurden, and husband Wayne Morgenstern.

She was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church, where she served on several committees including the “Search” program. She was an active member of her community including serving on the Executive Committee of the Marietta Chamber of Commerce, Zonta International, and the Business Council for Washington State Community College.

In 1984 she opened B&B Professional Services, a private employment agency. She retired as a Nutrition Educator from the O.S.U. Extension office.

Barbara loved playing cards with family and friends. She started several groups including; BJ & Friends, Ridge Runners, and WDI. She also enjoyed debating local and national issues, reading, gardening, and cooking.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 pm Friday at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley and Peoples Funeral Home, with a Vigil Service at 7:30pm. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be at 11:00 am Saturday, January 18, 2014, The Basilica of St. Mary of the Assumption, with The Rev. Christopher Foxhoven and The Rev. Charles Klinger concelebrating. Burial will be in New St. Mary Cemetery, Marietta.

Contributions can be made to St. John School Foundation or St. Mary’s School Foundation, envelopes available at the funeral home.
