Sgt. Steven C. McCloy, “The Big Guy”, 45, of Pennsboro, WV, departed this life on Friday, March, 14, 2014. Steve was born June 22, 1968, a son of Carl and Dinah McCloy of Walpole, ME.
He was a graduate of Ritchie County High School with the class of 1987 where he loved playing football and enjoyed the friendships made, as the first graduating class of RCHS. Shortly after graduation, he joined the WV National Guard in Salem. He loved serving his country and was a 20 year veteran with service in Honduras, Desert Storm, and Operation Iraqi Freedom. He worked at Simonton Windows for several years and eventually was employed by WV National Guard as a technician at the 1092nd in Parkersburg. He was also the owner of Life Guard Medical Supply in Pennsboro.
He loved helping local youth in his community through T-ball, youth football, and baseball. He was the head coach of the 2012 Ritchie County Youth football A-Team where he lead the team to an undefeated season and won the 2012 LKC Championship. He coached the 2013 Pennsboro Cubs, had an undefeated season and became the 2013 Ritchie County Little League Champions. He was a volunteer assistant football coach for the Ritchie County Middle School Blazers, where they played in the 2013 LKC Championship. His service to his community will be sadly missed.
He was the beloved husband of Melanie Vogt-McCloy; loving father of Jocelyn Vogt-McCloy and Tatem McCloy; the brother of Randy McCloy (Kim)of Ellenboro and Chris McCloy (Ginger) of Walpole, ME. He also had several nieces & nephews, aunts & uncles, cousins, friends of the WV National Guard, and his hunting buddies.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Nickloa McCloy Valentine; maternal grandparents, Bill and Mary Burns and paternal grandparents, Ira & Roxie McCloy.
A Celebration of Steve’s life will be Wednesday 7PM at the Ritchie County High School Gymnasium. Visitation will be from 4-7. Interment will be at the convenience of the family at Steve’s Deer Camp at Crum Hollow, Ritchie County.
