Harold Smith Mills, 95, of the Wadesville Community, passed away on Sunday, April 13, 2014, at the Willows Nursing Center.
He was born Oct. 30, 1918, at Belleville, a son of the late Thomas Mills and Ethel Charity Smith Mills Hoffman.
Harold was a long time member of the Wadesville Church of Christ and a current member of the Hopewell Church of Christ.
He retired from Ames with 41 years of service and was a Farmer. He had served in the United States Navy from 1943 to 1946, and was a recipient of the Pacific Theater Ribbon, the American Theater Ribbon and the Victory Medal. Harold had also been a member of the Farm Bureau.
Surviving are two daughters, Mary Roxanna Mills of Wadesville and Frances E. (George) Scott of Ravenswood; one son, John T. (Wanda) Mills of Washington, W.Va.; four grandchildren, Terry (Larry) Murphy of St. Marys, Kristine (Dale) Durst of Charleston, S.C., Penny (Kevin) Weekley of Lubeck and Angela (Rich) Rule of Vienna; and 9 great-grandchildren, Jeremy Harold Squires, Catherine Estelle Squires, Lauren Taylor Durst, Tyler Dale Durst, Tanner Lee Durst, Emily Danielle Weekley, Ryan J. Weekley, Taylor Mae Rule and Summer F. Rule. Also surviving are two nieces and a nephew.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Estella Carothers Mills in 1993; a brother, Leroy Mills; and two sisters, Florence Vandermeyden and Mary Ethel Mahoney.
The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 17, at Kimes Funeral Home, 521 5th Street, Parkersburg. Evangelists Randy Baker and Doug Petty will officiate and burial will follow at the Wadesville Cemetery. The visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 16. Military rites will be conducted at the funeral home also on Thursday by the American Legion Post #15 of Parkersburg.
