Robert Lee Peters, 85, of Parkersburg, W.Va., passed away peacefully on April 14, 2014 at Cleveland Clinic.

He was born October 31, 1928, in Parkersburg, the oldest son of the late Horace C. and Elizabeth Jane Lemon Peters. A veteran of the United States Army/Air Force, Robert was a hard-worker, he began work at the age of 15 for Matheny Motor and progressed until retirement as branch manager for C.I. Walker Machinery Company. He also served on the Chamber of Commerce Highway and Traffic Committee.

A lifelong learner, he graduated from PHS in 1946, attended the General Motors Institute, and earned a regents degree in business. He loved golf, reading, watching professional football and Blue Bloods on television, and he deeply loved his family. He was a faithful member of the Church, and was dedicated to God, His word, and His will. Robert's life was a constant example of God's love and guidance, especially to his family.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jean Atkinson Peters, whom he married on July 12, 1952; three daughters, Teresa Y. and husband, Larry Johnson and Cynthia L. and husband, Ron Fleak, both of Parkersburg, and Angela J. and husband, Jeff Fluharty of Mineral Wells, W.Va.; one son, Robert J. and wife, Debbie Peters of Washington; a nephew, who was like a son, Mark and wife, Loretta Peters of Waverly, W.Va.; three sisters, Elizabeth A. McCardle of Mobile, Ala., Susan J. Hennessey of Harahan, La. and Mary C. Stoneking of Walker, W.Va.; grandchildren, Janet and husband, Aaron Fleenor, Erik and wife, Susan Stoops, Russ and wife, Edee Johnson, Misi and husband, Ron Hambrick, Karen and husband, Mike Inman, Tony Peters, Brian Peters, Shane Peters and fiancee, Brandy Kirk, Nicole Fluharty, Alexis Fluharty, Santana Peters and Ali Peters; and great-grandchildren, Hope, Michael, Troy, Alex, Briylan, Cassie, Lee, Peyton, Kyla, Evelyn, Ashton, Cohen, and Teagan.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Richard E. Peters.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 19, 2014 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike St., Parkersburg, W.Va. with Evangelist Randy Yerby officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen South Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
