Annie Bell Haymond, 90, of Pennsboro, WV (Mountain Community) departed this life on Monday, April 28, 2014, at the United Hospital Center, Bridgeport, WV, following an extended illness.
Annie was born July 10, 1923, in Charleston, WV, a daughter of the late John William and Mary Ruth (Bell) Hershberger. Annie was a graduate of Lewisburg High School in Lewisburg, WV and then received a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from West Virginia University in Morgantown before enlisting in the US Navy during World War II. Following the war, she worked as a chemist in the aerospace industry in Los Angeles, CA and later worked as a medical technician in Los Angeles, CA. She later returned back to West Virginia with her late husband and received her teaching degree from Salem College before beginning a 17 year career as a teacher at Creed Collins Elementary School in Pennsboro, WV. Annie Bell greatly enjoyed traveling and camping with her late husband, working jigsaw puzzles, playing scrabble, and cross stitching.
She is survived by her two sisters, Mary Reed of Abingdon, MD and Margaret Landrum of El Segunda, CA; nieces and nephews, Ed Landrum (Norma) of Pennsboro, WV; Sandy White (Dave) of Ocean View, DE; Ron Roguski (Emily) of Siler City, NC; Teri Connell (Rick) of Bel Air, MD; Paul Hlusko (Ann) of Blacksburg, VA, along with many other extended nieces & nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Harvey Kysor “Chief” Haymond; sister, Betsy Sturgeon; niece, Mary Morgan, and nephew, John Landrum.
Funeral services will be 11am, Saturday, May 3, 2014, at the McCullough-Rogers Funeral Home, Pennsboro with burial to follow in the Mole Hill Cemetery near Pennsboro. Visitation will be from 5-8pm on Friday, at the funeral home.
