Pastor Samuel Grant Crites, 60, of 2408 Lamberton Road, Pennsboro, WV 26415 died early Sunday morning, May 4, 2014 after a five year battle with Multiple System Atrophy (MSA).

He was born Sept. 10, 1953 in Clarksburg, WV, the son of the late Jimmie F. Crites and of Ellnora Crites Withers.

Over 40 years ago, on August 4, 1973 he married the love of his life, the former Lavern Dodd who survives him. Other survivors include his mother, Ellnora Crites Withers and step-father, Bob Withers of Buckhannon, WV; daughter, Tahsha M. Crawley and husband Timothy of Fayetteville, NC; son, Travis G. Crites and wife Erica of Cedarville, WV and one sister, Christine Bright and husband, Clarence of Sutton, WV. Also surviving are eight grandchildren: Cherith, Alyvia, Selah, Titus, Josiah and Hosanna Crawley, and Hunter and Dakota Crites; nieces: Jessica Bright and Joelleen Bidwell and husband, Jim; and a great-nephew, Levon. He is also survived by many loving members of the Dodd family.

Pastor Crites was a 1971 graduate of Roosevelt Wilson High School and attended West Virginia University. He graduated from Bob Jones University in the spring of 1980. His ministry began as interim pastor at Fulks Runs, VA in 1980. He continued his ministry as part-time youth pastor of West Milford Baptist Church, 1981 and youth pastor of Temple Baptist Church in Hopewell, VA from 1981 to 1986. His next ministerial position was as pastor of West Milford Baptist Church from 1986 through 1999. He served as pastor of Pennsboro Baptist Church from 2000 to March of 2012 at which time he medically retired.

Pastor Crites loved serving his Lord and Savior and sharing the plan of salvation at every opportunity. He will be missed by the countless lives he impacted.

Family and friends may gather to visit at Bible Baptist Temple, 1450 Cost Ave., Rt. 58, Stonewood, WV, 26301 (304-623-2630) on Friday, May 9 at 4 PM with a Celebration of Life service at 6, officiated by his son-in-law, CPT Timothy Crawley, US Army Chaplain.

In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to be made to The Wilds Christian Camp and Conference Center at 1000 wilds Ridge Rd., Brevard, NC 28712 in memory of Pastor Sam Crites.
