Funeral Home: Leavitt Funeral Home
Betty "Lucy" Wilson, 84, of Parkersburg, WV died Saturday June 28, 2014 at Charleston Area Medical Center. She was born in Spring, City, TN a daughter of the late James Garfield and Maggie Marie (Byrd) Thurman.
Lucille, better known as Lucy was a devoted wife and mother who loved her boys. A woman of natural beauty and an inner soul to match; she loved life to the fullest. She cherished spending time with her brothers and sisters, playing cards every Tuesday with her best girlfriends, arguing with Bubba the dog, talking on the phone, showing off her grandchildren, and a good laugh. She never met a stranger and she had an amazing way of making a person feel as if they were the most important person in the room. A friend to her was a friend for life. She always put others first making sure she did whatever they wanted to do. She possessed a sharp wit and was humble in her response. Her legacy lives on in the stuffed animal bears that she meticulously hand made and the numerous family pets that bear her name. Those who were lucky enough to have been blessed with her presence will miss her greatly. However, she will never be forgotten because there is a little Lucy in all of us.
She is survived by three sons Kim Wesley Wilson (Betsy) of Charleston, SC, Lee F. Wilson of Parkersburg, and Tad M. Wilson (Kathleen) of Vienna; seven grandchildren Whitney and Wesley Wilson, Jennifer Carlan (Paul), and Tad, Taylor, Tanner, and Torri Wilson; two step grandchildren Ethan and William Tyler Airhart; five brothers and sisters Dorothy Holloway, Billy Ray Thurman, Joyce Hampton (Earl), Wanda Kincannon (Norman), and Earl Thurman (Kay); and a sister-in-law Martha Tony.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Julian Wesley Wilson; son Jay Thurman Wilson; two brothers Murrell and James Thurman; and a sister-in-law Charlotte Thurman.
Services will be Thursday 11:00 AM at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg with Reverend Rich McClure officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday 2-4 and 6-8 PM.
