Eldon Kerns, 74 of Vienna, WV and formerly a longtime resident of Murphytown, WV died at Ohio State University Hospital on June 30, 2014.
He was born in Petroleum, WV on November 27, 1939 and was the son of the late Ernest (Buss) and C. Olive Smith Kerns.
He retired from Walker Systems which was formerly the Rigg & Reel Company in Parkersburg. He was an avid golfer and bowler. He had been a member of the Murphytown Lions Club, the Elks Club in Parkersburg and became a member of the Moose Lodge in 1974. He had earned the highest degree of Pilgrim Status in the Moose Lodge. He had been Kawanha Valley District President, Past District President and was Past State President of the Moose Lodge. He had been chairman of the Community Service Activities for the Moose Lodge in the Parkersburg Area.
Surviviors include his brother, James C. (Dianna) Kerns of Murphytown, WV, his sister, Barbara L. (Dan) Ireland of Marietta, Ohio, three nieces, Angela Charonis of Pittsburgh, PA, Julia (Tim) Van Dale of Washington, WV, Lori Jane Carder (Dennis Elliott) of Parkersburg, WV, his uncle, Ray Smith of Parkersburg, two great nieces, Felicia and Abby, two great nephews, Troy and Nicholas and several cousins.
Services will be on Thursday at 2:00 PM at the Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg with Pastor Mary Zimmer officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunset Memory Gardens. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 3:00 to 8:00 PM where the Pilgrim Degree ceremony will be conducted at 7:00 PM.
