The Mid Ohio Valley Sports Hall of Fame will be inducting 12 new
members in the Class of 2013.

The honorees represent outstanding accomplishment in playing, coaching, and fostering the growth of athletics in a 7 county area in both Ohio and West Virginia

The MOV Sports Hall of Fame will enshrine the Class of 2013 in an induction banquet on June 8 at the Grand Pointe Center in Vienna, WV.

MOV Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2013

Ashli White Childers- Jackson County

Ashli excelled in both basketball and softball for the Ripley High School Vikings in the 1980's.

She set a school scoring record on the basketball court with a 40 point performance against Logan and twice she was named to the Class AAA First Team All State Basketball team.

On the softball diamond Ashli was a pitching standout with a career record of 50-22 and an earned run average of 1.33 with more than 500 career strikeouts.

She was named captain of the first All State Football Softball team and went on to excel in the sport as a scholarship athlete at Morehead State University

Bryan Crislip- Wood County

During his high school career at Parkersburg South, Bryan was as competent on on the basketball court, as he was on the first tee
.
His athleticism and drive earned Bryan All State first team honors in both sports

Bryan was a play maker on the Patriots who could set up a teammate, or take the shot himself.

He went on to have an outstanding basketball career at Florida Gulf Coast University, where he earned Most Valuable Player honors and set several school records

Mike DeVol- Noble County

Mike DeVol loved coaching high school football, and winning high school football games. And he was quite accomplished at both.

He left his mark on the football programs at Caldwell, Warren, and Parkersburg South High School . His record comes to 251-111-2
The high point of his success came in 2003 when he guided South to the WV Class AAA Championship

Mike finished up his career at his alma mater Caldwell, where he took his Redskins to the playoffs a final time.

Joe Garrett- Washington County

Championship winning basketball coach in both Ohio and West Virginia
First at Belpre High School, and then at Parkersburg Catholic, Joe won 13 conference championships and numerous sectional, district and regional championships.

Joe took his Golden Eagles to the Ohio Div. III Final Four three times
After a stellar career in Ohio, Joe finished up his career with Parkersburg Catholic.

He capped off his career with a WV Class A basketball championship in 2010.

His overall career coaching record 292-175

Roger Hosaflook- Washington County

Legendary Belpre wrestling coach who spent a lifetime building a successful Golden Eagle wrestling program.

Roger’s teams posted 403 victories and earned four District Championships and 14 Tri-Valley Conference Championships

He founded Belpre’s youth wrestling program and has impacted the lives of hundreds of athletes over the years.

Mike Lucas- Wirt County

Mike was a gifted athlete in his own right, and went on to share his knowledge as a coach for more than 3 decades.

He was a head football coach at 4 different schools. Mike enjoyed his greatest success at Wirt County High School .

He coached the Tigers to a perfect 10-0 regular season and three 9-1 season.

Mike took the Tigers to the playoffs 5 times, including 3 consecutive years in the early 1990’s

Larry Martin- Wood County-

Larry Martin was a steward of the game of golf.

He made a positive impact on the game he loved as the longtime PGA club professional at the Parkersburg Country Club.

During his tenure there, he oversaw the area’s oldest and most successful charity golf event: The Sour Mash Open. Over the years the tournament has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for local charities

But his legacy will always be for growing the game of golf. He founded a Junior Golf tour that gave young golfers a chance to learn the game the right way, and compete against kids their own age in a series of tournaments

Larry Martin passed away in February of 2012, but his contributions to the game of golf live on.

Mike McCoy- Wood County

Mike carried on the long tradition of great running backs at Parkersburg High School.

He’s sixth on the school’s all time rushing list with over 25 hundred yards to his credit

Mike was a big play back, averaging over 5 yards a carry for his career, and he also had 18 career touchdowns

He earned All State honors with the Big Reds and finished second in the voting for the Kennedy Award as player of the year.

Mike earned a scholarship playing football at Marshall and was a 4 year letterman.

Allison Spiker Morris- Jackson County

Allison was the first female athlete at Ripley High School to earn 12 varsity letters

She earned All State honors in both cross country and track. Allison was also a starter on the Lady Vikings basketball team as well
Success in competition followed Allison to West Virginia University where she also ran both cross country and track.

She earned 12 more varsity letters competing for the Mountaineers and served as captain of both teams

Missy Spangler- Ritchie County

Missy is the daughter of MOV Sports Hall of Fame member Terry Spangler. But she was a success in her own right.

Missy was a dominant athlete in basketball, cross country, and track. She was a 4 time First Team All State pick in both basket ball and cross country.

She was an incredible athlete on the basketball court for a Lady Rebels team that made a run at the state tournament.

Missy went on to compete in basketball and track at Robert Morris University and West Virginia Wesleyan

Don Stansberry- Wood County

Don is a worthy inclusion to the list of great coaches being honored in this year’s induction class.

He was the head girls varsity basketball coach at Parkersburg High School for a successful run that spanned parts of 3 decades

His 263 career victories make him the winningest girls basketball coach in school history

Don led the Big Red Girls to 11 Sectional Championships, 9 Regional Championships and 4 Class AAA State Championships.

He has been honored as the Girls Basketball Coach of the Year, and as an Outstanding West Virginia by Governor Gaston Caperton

Don Ullmann- Noble Country

Don’s organizational skills have served him, and various athletic groups over the years, well.

The Noble county educator helped found the Pioneer Valley Athletic Conference in 1973.

He’s been on several committees with the Ohio Valley Athletic Conference.

Don has also had an impact on the Ohio High School Athletic Association as a member of he Eastern District Board

Don was on the founding committee of the Mid Ohio Valley Sports Hall of Fame and serves as Secretary-Treasurer of the organization.
