2014 Mid Ohio Valley Sports Hall of Fame Class Announced

The Mid Ohio Valley Sports Hall of Fame will be inducting new members in the Class of 2014. The honored represent outstanding accomplishments in playing, coaching, administration, and fostering the growth of athletics in a seven county area in Ohio and West Virginia.
The newest members of the Hall of Fame will be enshrined at a banquet on June !4 at the Grand Pointe Center in Vienna.

Donald "Dave" Barnes- Washington County.

Dave was an outstanding 3 sports athlete at Marietta High School. He was also drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates. Dave later went on to coach and was a a long time referee

Larry E. Butcher- Pleasants County

Larry was instrumental in the development of the sport of Cross Country in the area. He was a highly successful cross country and track and field coach at St. Marys High School.

Charles (Bernie) Buttrey- Wood County.

Outstanding football Coach. First at Williamstown, where he helped turn around the Yellowjackets program and send it on to unprecedented success. Then added to Parkersburg High School's championship legacy with back to back State Championships for the first time in school history.

George B. Elliott- Wood County.

George captained the defense on the legendary 1976 Parkersburg Big Reds state championship squad. His talents landed him a scholarship to Marshall and he was a four year starter for the Thundering Herd

John B. Flint- Wood County

John began his athletic career as an athlete first at Glenville High school and later returned as head coach at Gilmer County. He was a long time Athletic Director at Parkersburg South and helped in the planning and construction at the Erickson All Sports Facility

Joe Fox - Jackson County.

Joe Fox was an athlete and a leader at Ravenswood High School
He was a 3 year starter in 3 sports for the Red D evils and the highlight of his career was quarterbacking the undefeated 1972 team that won a State Championship

Susan Kay Gardner- Wood County

Susan was a championship winning coach who had had an impact on hundreds of athletes over the years. Her teams won 11 State Championships in Cross and Field, and 2 State Championships in Volleyball

Larry Phillips- Wood County

Larry was one of the 3 legendary Phillips boys who played at Parkersburg High. He won the Hunt Award as Lineman of the Year in West Virginia and went on to play for Ohio State

Jedidiah Stephen- Noble County

Jedidiah was arguably the best athlete ever to come out of Shenandoah High School He won 11 Varsity letters in 3 sports and was a a finalist for the Mr. Football Award in Ohio

Jill E. Stephens- Wood County

Jill was a 3 sports star for the Patriots earning First Team All State honors in volleyball, basketball and softball,
She earned a basketball scholarship to the University of Cincinnati and was twice named the team's Most Valuable Player

Richard Sturm- Jackson County

Dick Sturm was a fixture in Ravenswood High School football for nearly half a century He was part of a Red Devils coaching staff he was part of 2 state championship efforts and had a hand in 304 victories for the Jackson County School over the years

David Lee Wilcoxen- Washington County

David first made a name for himself as a standout player at Belpre High School and Marietta College. then as a coach he posted 364 wins in girls and boys basketball.
