Super Saturday

It's seven days that will be remembered as long as there is a Williamstown high school.

In a span of 1 week the Williamstown Yellowjacket avenged 3 straight championship losses to Wheeling Central, and then earned their Class A crown with a 23-7 victory over Weirton Madonna.

On a cold snowy night on Wheeling Island stadium the Yellowjackets went with their strength: the running game. Williamstown ground out over 300 yards on a snow covered artificial turf.

Nobody ran the ball better than senior Cameron Powell. He rushed for 234 yards and touchdown runs of 2 and 11 yards. His efforts earned him Most Valuable Player honors for the championship game.

The Yellowjackets defense was equally relentless. They had an early breakdown in the first quarter with a touchdown pass to Connor Arlia. But after that, the 'Jackets totally dominated the Blue Dons.

As the clock ran out, a joyous Jacket team stormed the field to celebrate a first ever football championship experience and to collect the Class A championship trophy.

Coming up later today on WTAP.com we will streaming video of an extended highlights package. You will see it all, from the time the Yellowjackets took the field, to them claiming the championship trophy.
