WV High School Golf Championship

Some area golfers are off to a great start after day 1 of the West Virginia High School State Golf Championship in Wheeling

We start in the Class A ranks.

The Williamstown Yellowjackets are the frontrunners in the team competition.

The Yellowjackets top 3 scores of the day totaled 255. That's good for a 2 shot lead over Huntington St. Joe's and Weirton Madonna, Charleston Catholic and Trinity round out the top 5.

On the individual leaderboard in Class A Parkersburg Catholic's Jacob hensler fired a 3 over par round of 74. Thats good for a 5 shot lead over Williamstown's Jordan Pomrenke. Another Williamstown golfer Robbie Fenton is in 4th place

Adam Straight of St. Marys cards an 85, and Amanda Marchetti and and Logan Flanagan carded rounds in the mid 90's.

In Class AA, Grafton has opened up a 3 shot edge over defending state champion Ritchie County. Grafton's best 3 scores add up to 256 wich is 43 over par. And Wyoming East, PoInt Pleasant, and Scott round out the top 5.

Checking out the Class Double A individudal scores. Evan Muscari's round of 73 has opened up a six shot lead over Chris Johns of Grafton

Ravenswood's Torey Wolf is tied for fifth place. And Ritchie county's Mathew Metz is another couple of shots back.

In Class AAA, Hurricane has opened up a sizeable 11 shot lead over the field.

The Redskins total of 227 gives them a 14 over par team total.

Wheeling Park is a distant second
and Cabell Midland, George Washington. and Bridgeport round out the top 5.

Hurricane's Brian Anania tops the individual leader board in class AAA with a 1 over par 72.

That's good for a 4 shot lead over Mark Pinti of Bridgeport.

Parkersburg high's Ollie Fankhauser carded a round of 80. And Parkersburg South's Austin Root shot an 82.

The tournament wraps up on Wednesday at the Speidel course in Wheeling.
