It was a typical full-moon night, when the "lunacy" of the lunar illumination made for some crazy action both on and off the track. Skyline Speedway was not spared from the full-moon as a race-long battle between Chris Carpenter, Jeff Burdette, and Chris Garnes in the AMRA Late Models went right down to the wire with Parkersburg's Burdette winning in a wild last lap melee. Chillicothe, Ohio's Josh Davis pulled off the Ohio Valley Sprint Car Association main, Andy Bond claimed the AMRA Modified feature, while Ryan Wilson and Tommy Adkins were repeats in the Pure Stocks and Four Cylinder's respectively. Will Holland captured the Mini-wedge feature.
Jeff Burdette and Tony Roush paced the 18 car AMRA Late Model field to the start line with Roush leading the first five circuits before Parkersburg's Chris Carpenter took over on lap six. The top six cars of Carpenter, Roush, Burdette, Garnes, K.C. Burdette, and Scott Wolfe were all within striking distance of a run to the front. Roush held second until Burdette took the runner-up slot on lap twelve. Tyler Carpenter in the Bub Crum Rocket blasted into fifth about the same time, while two laps later Travis Brookover-the hard charger-- moved by Wolfe for sixth.
The top eight cars were all in line for a run at the checkered. Carpenter held off the charges of Burdette and Garnes lap after lap. Coming down for the checkered, rookie driver Jarod Circle in his first feature-start-ever was collected by Carpenter. The impact opened up a path to victory for Burdette who rode around the spinning Circle for the win. Carpenter recovered for second with Garnes, Tony Roush, Tyler Carpenter, Travis Brookover, Scott Wolfe, Justin Powell, Andy Bond, and Jason Brookover rounding out the top ten. Travis Brookover came from 11th to sixth for hard-charger honors.
In the wake of the wild finish that put Burdette in victory lane, a major scuffle erupted in the Circle pit adding more fuel to an already exciting night. At press time a controversial call relegated K.C. Burdette to the tail. Burdette ran in the top five most of the night and a post-race discussion may have reinstated the young charger to a top ten slot to be announced later.
In the OVSCA main, fast timer and first heat winner Bryce Dickson led the first two circuits. Josh Davis charged into the lead on the third circuit and despite runs at Davis by Jimmy Nier, Davis led the remaining twenty-two rounds for the popular win. Dickson held second until lap five when Nier rampaged into the runner-up slot. Dickson, Andre Layfield, Dave Dickson and Australian competitor Trevor Green (in Danny Smith's car) all sliced and diced for the next four positions. Layfield briefly challenged for second, but Nier recharged and was off in chase of the dominating Davis. Mitchell Harble moved into the hunt with a great run while Jimmy Stinson was on a misison in a 15th to 7th run that earned him hard-charger honors.
With Davis flat-footing his mount through traffic with great finesse, close action typical of the OVSCA followed in his wake. At the finish behind second place Nier was Andre Layfield, Trevor Green, Mitchell Harble, Bryce Dickson, Jimmy Stinson, Dave Dickson, Freddie Staats, and Sam Ashworth.
The familiar #1a once again found its way to victory lane in the AMRA modifieds. This time Coolville's Andy Bond was in the cockpit of the Doug Henry Malta Doors and Windows mount. Bond stoked the coals early as he outran AMRA point leader Kenny Johnson to the first turn. Jeremy Blake followed in suit to take over second as Vince Conrad, Jeremy Berwanger and the father-son duo of Rick Venham and Rick Venham, Jr. followed in tandem. Bond began to pull away, not withstanding a persistent assault from Blake. Blake had two fronts to defend--the chase on Bond and shewing off high-flying Johnson.
While the super-fast Triumvirate reigned supreme over the first three positions, defending AMRA national champ Berwanger secured a solid fourth with up-and-coming Vince Conrad at his side. As Bond blitzed by Todd Gorrell's checkered for the win Blake, Kenny Johnson, Jeremy Berwanger, Vince Conrad, Robbie Evans, Rick venham, Jr., Jeremy Roush, J.P. Roberts, and Kurt Stacy followed in tow.
George Klintworth had a good night in all divisions. Klintworth, however, fell short against the Wilson Energy driver 'Flying Ryan Wilson in the pure stocks. Wilson won yet another feature. Klintworth battled it out with Shane Roush and Shelly Powell. When the scorecard came in it was Wilson, Klintworth, Roush, Shelly Powell, Rick VanDyne, Jarod Willis, Gary Gould, Bill Lucas, Rick Wilson, and Curt Reck.
Tommy Adkins once again was the king of the Four Cylinders after a race-long battle with rival Chris Lauer. Jeff Rankin had another great run to third ahead of Scott Neal, Randy Wise, Cody Heiss, Barry Kitts, Dean Wingrove, Steve Brown, and John Rankin.
