New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith has left Friday night's exhibition game against the Detroit Lions with an apparent right ankle injury.
The Jets rookie was flushed from the pocket in the third quarter and he appeared to injure the ankle trying to make a cut up field.
There was no immediate announcement about the extent of Smith's injury, but he was eventually able to hobble off the field and back to the Jet's locker room under his own power.
Smith, a second-round draft pick out of West Virginia, is Mark Sanchez's main competition at quarterback. He was 6 of 7 for 47 yards but did not lead any scoring drives,
