Pioneers Win in Ten, Still in Championship Hunt

The Marietta College Pioneers are now 2 wins away from back to back NCAA Division III World Series titles

Tuesday the Pioneers scored a dramatic 6-5 walk off victory in ten innings against Wheaton College of Massachusetts

All American Tim Saunders delivers by drawing a bases loaded walk to drive in Zach Bukiewicz with the game winning run in the tenth.

The Pioneers battled back from a 3-1 deficit to take the lead with a 3 run sixth inning, highlighted by Evan Brockmeier's two run single that made it 4-3 Marietta

But the Lions responded with 2 runs in the top of the 7th to regain the lead.at 5-4.

Marietta tied it in their half of the seventh on an rbi single by Aaron Hopper that deadlocked the game at 5

That set the stage for the Pioneer heroics in the tenth inning
For the second game in a row, Kyle Lindquist gets the win in relief

Marietta improves to 46-8 on the season and they will face St. Thomas Wednesday at noon. The winner of that game will face Wheaton College in a 1 game showdown for the championship.

Pioneers Rally Past Webster to Survive in World Series

Marietta College is still alive in the NCAA Division III World Series.

Monday afternoon in Appleton Wisconsin, the Pioneers pulled off an 12-7 come from behind victory over Webster University

The Pioneers found themselves staring at a 5 run deficit when Webster erupted for 7 runs in the fourth inning of their losers bracket elimination game.

But the defending World Series Champions regained the lead with a six run outburst in their half of the fourth inning. Alex Toth's 2 run single capped off the rally and put the Pioneers ahead to stay. Mitch Geers had a big day at the plate for Marietta with 3 hits, includng an inside the park home run, and 4 runs batted in.

Pioneer pitcher Kyle Lindquist came on in relief in the 4th inning to shutdown Webster's rally and he earned the victory

Marietta improves to 45-8 on the season and will play Wheaton Tuesday afternoon at 4:30

St. Thomas Downs Marietta in Round 2 of World Series

If Marietta College is going to win the NCAA Division III World Series, the Pioneers will have to do it battling their way out of the losers bracket

Sunday night St. Thomas shaded the Pioneers 3-1 in a winners bracket game of the Appleton Wisconsin Tournament.

St. Thomas struck for 2 runs in the third inning to take the lead. The Pioneers cut into the lead in the 5th inning, the beneficiary of a bases loaded walk.

St. Thomas pushed the advantage back out to 2 runs with a run in the 7th.

That was more than enough support for St. Thomas starting pitcher Dylan Thomas. He pitched his way out of a bases loaded jam in the top of the ninth inning to get the victory in a complete game performance.

St. Thomas advances into the winners bracket to face Wheaton. While Marietta drops into the losers bracket to face Webster in an elimination game Monday afternoon at 2:15pm

Pioneers Defeat Whitworth in World Series Opener

Marietta College has passed its first test at the NCAA Division III World Series in Appleton Wisconsin

Friday night the defending National Champion Pioneers pounded out 22 hits on their way to a 13-2 victory over Whitworth University

Aaron Hopper sent the 'Etta Express on it's way with a 2 run homer in the third inning. And Kirby Becker had a great day as a lead-off batter with 5 hits. And Marietta High School alum Evan Brockmeier has contributed 3 hits and driven in 3 runs.

Austin Blaski gets the win after pitching six shutout innings, scattering 2 hits along the way and striking out eight.

Marietta improves to 44-7 on the season and advances to play St. Thomas in a winner's bracket game 7:45pm Saturday night
