At the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships in Texas Friday Morning, Parkersburg high graduate and Ohio State Buckeye Tim Phillips qualified for the Men's 100 Butterfly Final.
Phillips swam to a time of 45.18 in the qualifying round, which set him in lane four for the final later in the night.
During the final race, Phillips stole the lead out of the final turn, but was passed on the home stretch by Florida's Marcin Cieslak and Florida State's Pavel Sankovich. Phillips finished third with a time of 45.10.
Since Phillips raced in the finals, he earned All-American status for this year's season.
He will have another shot at a title Saturday, when he competes on the Ohio State 4 x 100 relay team.
