Brenna Slavens

Brenna joined the WTAP news team in April 2010 as your Daybreak and Noon News anchor.

She grew up in Jackson, Ohio (Home of the Apple Festival) with her family along with numerous pets including dogs, cats and even a donkey. Growing up Brenna always knew she wanted to report the news and got her first taste of the journalism “bug” while in middle school as an anchor for the Media Club. From there she was active in her high school’s student-produced media and was a member of Quill and Scroll.

Brenna graduated cum laude from the W. Page Pitt School of Journalism and Mass Communications at Marshall University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Broadcast Journalism. While in college she was a member of Alpha Xi Delta sorority, Dean’s Advisory Board, Judicial Board and ASPCA.

She also stayed very busy reporting, producing and anchoring for MU Report and served as the first weather reporter for “The Parthenon”, Marshall’s student newspaper. Brenna also served as a news anchor for WMUL 88.1 for two years.

In January 2009 she interned at WOWK-TV in Huntington. After she completed her internship, Brenna was hired as a producer at WOWK-TV for the 6, 10 and 11 o’clock weekend newscasts.

When Brenna’s not at work you can find her with her dog Hank, whom she adopted from the Huntington-Cabell-Wayne Animal Shelter. She also enjoys playing tennis, collecting elephants, reading, spending time with her family and friends and, of course, cheering on the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Thundering Herd.

Brenna is proud to be living and working in the Mid-Ohio Valley . If you have any story ideas for Brenna you can contact her at
