Summertime is just around the corner.
Is your tummy ready for last year's bikini?
Are you too flabby for your Speedo?
In today's Health Minute, Dr. Sanjay Gupta reports on how to get flat and fit.
You've seen them on the beach. Hard bodies, stomachs of steel. How do they do it?
Katherine Tallmadge, author of the" Fab Ab Diet" and a spokesperson for the American Dietetic Association, says it takes more than 100 sit-ups to get awesome abs.
"New research shows that what you are eating may be just as important as your workout."
Want fab abs? Fill your diet full of fiber, high quality carbs like fruits and veggies and plenty of protein. Fiber cuts down on bloating, carbs rev up your energy and protein builds muscle.
Also, drink plenty of water.
"You need enough water to flush out water out of your tissues, so you can be several pounds lighter and not bloated."
And try to cut out stress.
"When you are stressed it increases a hormone called Cortisone. And Cortisone increases belly fat."
Doing crunches? Add strength training and cardio workout to those sit-ups. Strength training builds up the core muscles, cardio burns fat.
Combine these diet tips and the right exercise and you could be packing a near-perfect pack by the middle of the summer.
For today's health minute, i'm Dr. Sanjay Gupta.
