Just completing this workout is impressive. Once touted as a work out only for exercise zealots, the crossfit exercise program is not for the weak at heart.
Forget fancy machines and zumba classes, instead crossfit is a high intensity fitness routine, that's part gymnastics, part body building and a lot of sweat
"What we're looking to do is to find as many different modalities of exercise, as many different ways of mixing, as many different movements as possible that mimic what people need out in the real world."
And that gets the body pumping at a high rate. Stress is just part of the game. That's maybe why police officers, military personnel, even ceos like this type of routine. Throw in a few marathoners, a future olympian and you get the picture. But trainers say anyone can do it, they just need the will.
"Human movement is human movement. They vary by degree and intensity only. So the kind of work that my 85-year-old father needs to do around the farm or one of these special unit forces operators for the state department potentially need to execute the stuff that every human needs to do."
The workout is so extreme, it can lead to injuries. Yet most of these participants say the risks are worth it, because they feel it's the most challenging routine they've ever participated in.
