PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) - The March, 2017 Jan Dils' Golden Apple Award Winner is Kristi Miller, a first grade teacher at Criss Elementary School in Parkersburg.

Miller’s been a teacher for more than 3 decades and has a big hand in organizing educational activities, like Dr. Seuss Day and Science Day.

She greets her students with a smile and treats them like members of her family.

Parents say she's even purchased musical instruments for kids who couldn't afford them.

Miller says her motto is, "it's all for the kids.”

“It feels wonderful, it's so exciting. I have a love for children, so it just comes naturally and I never expected to get an award. You know, sometimes as teachers we get tired, but I always try to push myself over and beyond because it is for the kids. And you try to make memories for them, because a lot of children don't have the opportunities as some of the other kids and it’s just nice to let everybody have the same experiences.”
