Ron Lathey is described as always going above and beyond for his students.
A math teacher at Williamstown High School for the past 43 years, students say Lathey's classes are challenging, but he's always able to explain in ways each student understands and that there's no such thing as a silly question.
Lathey said seeing a student succeed is the reason teachers are here.
"First of all, passion for kids. Passion to leave a mark on the world. Realizing that the impact you have on the world isn't going to stop with just one class. I don't see any greater job that has a greater influence than what a teacher does and you have to love it. You have to love the kids and you have to be willing to work," said Lathey on what it takes to be a good teacher.
He added that it was the teachers he had growing up that inspired him to become a teacher and that receiving this honor is a day he'll never forget.
