PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) - As the Mid-Ohio Valley continues to deal with the aftermath of tropical storm Gordon and prepare for flooding that may come with hurricane Florence, a local festival has called off its event.
Riverfest has been postponed until next year. Most of the sternwheelers that were in Marietta last weekend have gone back to the safety of their home harbors. The boats that stayed will head out as soon as the river settles enough for them to travel. Organizers of Riverfest say the sternwheelers safety is the most important thing to them.
Meanwhile Point Park has been flooded for yet another time this year. The would-be-venue is under a few feet of water and covered in debris from the Ohio River. Organizers say they are reimbursing vendors and bands that have paid in advance.
