This week the First Unitarian Universalist Society of Marietta is hosting eleven Tibetan Buddhist monks from the Drepung Loseling Monastery in India.
You'll see them touring Marietta this week and can visit them at the church as they share their ancient Tibetan spiritual tradition and culture.
The monks have begun the drawing a sacred mandala in the sanctuary and today the community started to create their own sand painting.
Visitors are able to watch them build the mandala, which is a tool for gaining wisdom and compassion. It's generally depicted as a tightly balanced geometric composition.
You can visit the monks at the M-O-V Multi-Cultural Festival in Parkersburg this weekend and watch them dismantle the mandala on Sunday into the Muskingum River at 3 p.m.
