PARKERSBURG, W.VA. (WTAP) - UPDATE 7/11/18 6:00 PM:
A Parkersburg couple was arrested for reportedly abusing their 21-year-old son with disabilities Tuesday. The Parkersburg Police Chief says it's one of the worst cases he's ever seen.
Christina and Herbert Boyles are the mother and stepfather of the 21-year old victim. Wednesday, Herbert posted bond at $60,000. Christina, the mother, did not post bond and is being held at the North Central Regional Jail.
Joseph Martin, the Parkersburg Police Chief, says the victim has extreme autism and can speak but not form sentences.
On June 3rd, police responded to 501 32nd Street for a welfare check. They say upon arrival the victim was seen with dried blood on his face and in a diaper full of feces. He was so malnourished they couldn't find a pulse or vein to start an IV. He was taken to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown where he is still being treated.
"We don't see a ton of these kinds of cases but when we do, its, I've personally never seen one of this level where they were keeping him basically in a dog kennel, tied up with ropes and just unthinkable things, especially for an autistic person to have to live through. So you know it’s not common that we see these kind of cases.” Explains Martin.
Martin also says the victim had sores on his face and genitals from being sprayed with oven cleaner. He says Adult Protective Services is trying to find a place for him to go.
