Downed electric poles cause power outage in Athens

ATHENS, Ohio (WTAP) - A contractor was replacing an electric pole with three transformers near the Athens Police Department Tuesday afternoon. AEP says that pole fell, causing four more to come down with it in a cascade effect.

The power outage began at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.

AEP says power will be restored to the majority of the 335 customers affected by 8:00 p.m. Tuesday night. A smaller portion of customers are expected to have their electricity back by 7 a.m. Wednesday.

No one is hurt. AEP says the investigation into what happened is ongoing.
