A community college in Washington County has a new president at its helm.
Friday afternoon, Dr. Vicki wood was inaugurated as the new president of Washington State Community College.
She is the 7th president of the college.
Wood was a community college graduate herself.
She spent the first 33 years of her career at Marion Technical College.
Dr. Wood says she has plenty in mind for the future of the college, "I have a servant leadership style and having worked in higher education for thirty-three years I'm passionate with student success and about growth and opportunity for employees.”
“I like to establish relationships with my employees to get to know their goals and the direction that they want to move in their careers, so I can help them support their growth," says Wood.
In the short time she has been at the college so far, Dr. Wood has accomplished a lot.
After five years of declining enrollment, they increased enrollment and student retention in the past two semesters.
They have strengthened their agreement with Marietta College so WSCC graduates will have a seamless pathway to complete a bachelor’s degree while staying in this community.
They also have a new reciprocity agreement with WV that will open access to more students in the Mid-Ohio Valley.
The WSCC Board has allocated funds so they can expand academic programs in health, business, and engineering; and launch a new Workforce Development Center.
