Early morning home burglary investigated in Wood County

WALKER, W.Va. (WTAP) - The Wood County Sheriff's Department is investigating an early morning home burglary.

It happened on the 8000 block of Staunton Turnpike in Walker.

Deputy Matthew Hupp says at around 3:50am on Tuesday a couple in their 70's was awaken by a man shining a flashlight in their faces.

The man living in the home says he heard what he thought was a gun cocking. The man says the intruder said if the couple gave him money that no one would get hurt.

The wife then threw her purse in the hallway and the intruder left the residence.

Less than $1,000 of property was stolen, the purse has since been found and returned.

No one was injured in the incident. And the Wood County Sheriff's Department says that no suspect has been identified.
