UPDATE: Names released in deadly Meigs County house fire

MEIGS COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) - UPDATE: 11/29/18 6:15 P.M.

The names of two people killed in a Meigs County house fire have been released by the Meigs County Sheriff's Office.

Harvey Smith Martin and Jeanette Lynn McDonald Martin are the victims. He was 49, and she was 45.
Both are from Langsville in Meigs County.

The fire happened around 9:20 p.m. Wednesday.

On Thursday, investigators with the state Fire Marshal's Office confirmed a propane explosion happened inside the home along Old Dexter Road.

Investigators haven't determined the actual ignition source or what caused the buildup of propane due to the widespread extent of the damage.

At this time, there's no indication that the fire is suspicious.


A fire that killed two people in Meigs County was the result of a propane explosion, authorities said.

The names of the victims have not been released.

Investigators with the Ohio state fire marshal's office confirm the explosion happened inside a home on Old Dexter Road about 9:15 p.m. Wednesday.

Investigators said they haven't been able to determine what caused the buildup of propane because of extensive damage to the residence.

However, there is nothing to indicate that the fire is suspicious, investigators said.

Authorities said a coroner will examine dental records to determine the identity of the victims.

Two people were killed in a fire according to the Ohio Fire Marshal's Office.

It happened Wednesday night along Old Dexter Road.

Officials say they are going back out Thursday morning to continue investigating the cause and where it started.
