George H.W. Bush remembered by local politician

MARIETTA OH, (WTAP)- The country lost the head of its modern day democratic dynasty Friday night with the passing of former President George H. W. Bush.

Bush left a lasting impression on our country’s history through his service in World War II, as a Texas congressman, CIA director and as Ronald Reagan's vice president.

Members of our own community have personal stories and connections to the former president, some of whom were involved with his early campaigns while they were in the beginning chapters of their own political careers.

“I worked for his exploratory campaign before he actually ran for office, so I did that for a few months before I found my subsequent job…He’s always conducted himself with class. You don’t see bad things said about him. He was a wonderful father, grandfather…and then his service, I thought particularly as vice president to Reagan was one of his finest hours as well,” explains Andy Thompson, Ohio State Representative of the 95th House District.

Andy Thompson and his wife both have connections to the former president that allowed their paths to cross throughout their careers.
