High water causing problems across Mid-Ohio Valley

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) - UPDATE: 11/06/2017

The Washington County Sheriff's Office reports the following roads were impassable Monday morning because of high water resulting from overnight storms:

Veto Road near Briggs Hill Road - Dunham Township Road; Best Hollow Road - Liberty Township Road; Millbranch Road - Belpre Township Road; Drag Strip Road - Belpre Township Road; Veto Road -County Road; Braun Road - County Road; Olloch Hill Road - Adams Township Road; Huck Road - County Road; Rainbow Road - Adams Township Road; Bear Creek Road - Salem Township Road; and Germantown Road - County Road.


Multiple roads in the Mid-Ohio Valley remain impassable and several schools are delayed or closed following strong thunderstorms that swept across the region Sunday night and Monday morning.

In Wood County, the West Virginia Division of Highways reports that Walker Road is closed near Blaze Run because of a mudslide.

The Wood County 911 Center reports numerous road closures on its Facebook page but says several roads that had been closed are now passable.

The DOH also says several roads were blocked early Monday but the water receded quickly in most areas.

The following roads remain closed: Route 31 in the 2600 block of Deerwalk Highway; County Route 1/1 in the 700 block of Waverly Road near Carr Concrete; and Rt. 38/2 at 1620 Pleasant Hill Road.

A DOH spokesman says there are currently no roads closed in Pleasants or Ritchie counties. However, the Pleasants County 911 Center reports there are high water signs in place along Cow Creek Road.

In Ohio, the Department of Transportation reports the following road closures in Athens County: Route 56 between Vinton County line and Athens corporate limits; Route 144 between Routes 50 and 329; Route 329 between Routes 44 and 55; Route 329 between Routes 550 and 13; Route 356 between Routes 681 and 56; Routes; Route 550 between Routes 690 and 329; Route 550 between E. Route 392 and Route 377; Route 685 between Routes 78 and 13; and Route 690 between Routes 50 and 550.

In addition, traffic is restricted on Route 145 in Washington County between Lower Salem and the Noble County line and on Route 13 in Athens County between Route 550 and Glouster.

As of 7 a.m. Monday, the Mid-Ohio Valley Regional Airport reported 2.5 inches of rain had fallen over the past 24 hours.

Several schools are also operating on a two-hour delay. The list includes: Pleasants, Ritchie and Tyler counties in West Virginia and Frontier Local Schools in Ohio. In addition, Noble Local Schools are closed because of high water.
