MARIETTA OH, (WTAP)- We are fortunate to live in an area full of significant American history and Saturday in Marietta, an important historical figure was immortalized.
The Civil War Round Table of the Mid-Ohio Valley performed a historical marker dedication at the Marietta Armory to honor Brigadier General William Pitt Richardson. General Richardson played a significant role in both the Mexican War and Civil War and resided, for a large portion of his life, in Ohio.
Members of the group say that it is a privilege to honor someone that dedicated his life to service the way that General Richardson did.
“These men scarified not only for their fellow men here in Ohio but also for a larger purpose. In General Richardson’s case in the Civil War, for the abolition of slavery and the ending of that evil institution and all that he did throughout his life was about service,” explains Scott Britton of the Civil War Round Table of the Mid-Ohio Valley.
The historical marker will permanently live at Richardson’s former home at 215 Washington Street in Marietta.
