Legislative candidates address local business leaders

VIENNA, W.Va.-(WTAP) Local candidates for the West Virginia Legislature explained their positions on several topics to area business leaders Tuesday morning.

Hopefuls for the House of Delegates and Senate took part in a Meet the Candidates forum.

They discussed business and government issues as well as education and the state's drilling industry.

The forum was sponsored by the Mid-Ohio Valley Chamber of Commerce and the city of Vienna.

"Our goal in hosting this candidate forum was to allow the business community to hear from the candidates," explained Chamber President Jill Parsons, "to find out how they stand on issues, and to also share their questions and concerns. I feel we had a great mixture of the business community here today to hear these candidates, and we're very pleased with that."

Candidates all replied "yes" when asked if they would support making Home Rule, set to expire in 2009, a permanent program for West Virginia cities taking part in it. Those include the cities of Vienna and Parkersburg.

The deadline to register to vote in West Virginia for the general election is October 16th.

Early voting begins October 24th.
