Local residents feel lottery fever ahead of Powerball drawing

BELPRE, Ohio (WTAP) - Excitement is growing for Wednesday night's Powerball drawing. The jackpot increased to $460 million.

The Multi-State Lottery Association says this is now the 7th largest Powerball jackpot and 10th largest U.S. lottery jackpot in history.

Lottery officials say the Powerball jackpot has been on the rise since late October, when a person from Louisiana claimed a $191 million jackpot.

At the Peoples News on Washington Blvd in Belpre, employees told us they saw a steady flow of people buying tickets for the Powerball drawing.

Rod Hume, a Little Hocking resident, said, "If I won the Powerball, I'd probably buy a house and give a lot of it away."

"I'd retire there's plenty of hunting and fishing to do," Jarrod Hume, a Little Hocking resident, said.

The drawing is set for 10:59 p.m. Eastern Standard Time Wednesday night. The cash value of the jackpot is $291 million.

The largest Powerball jackpot on record was a $1.586 billion jackpot back in January 2016.
