Mid-Ohio Valley Health Dept. giving away clothes on its Christmas tree

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) - The Mid-Ohio Valley Health Department continues its Christmas tradition of giving back.

The department’s Parkersburg office recently put up its Christmas tree. But it’s not your average tree. It’s decorated with hats, mittens, and gloves.

When children in the WIC, or women, infants, and children program, come in for their appointments, they get to pick something off the tree and keep it as a gift.

It’s the health department’s way of making the holidays extra special for children.

“It’s just a great way to give back,” said Nicole Gaines, the WIC supervisor at the department.

“And it’s just something that’s needed kids can never have enough hats gloves mittens, so it’s a great way to give back and make sure they have what they need.”

The clothes on the tree are mostly donated by the staff and the public. The department is accepting donations for the tree at its Parkersburg location on 6th Street.

It’s the third year the department’s done this.
