DAYTON, Ohio (NBC) - An Ohio judge finds a former youth soccer coach guilty on eight counts of unlawful contact with a minor. But the man was not in the courtroom.
Justin Smith is on the run.
He was last seen Wednesday before closing arguments. The trial resumed Friday but his defense is still unsure of their client's whereabouts.
Smith, 41, waived a jury trial and instead opted to face the judge, even taking the stand himself only to not show up after a brief lunch break last Wednesday.
Judge Erik R. Blaine found Smith guilty of all charges including the sexual battery of a 14-year-old girl he coached in soccer.
Smith's ankle monitor was tampered with Wednesday and last pinged south of Dayton, in Franklin, Ohio.
A nationwide warrant has been issued.
