OHSP investigating fatal motorcycle crash in Morgan County

MORGAN COUNTY, OH. - (WTAP) A Morgan County man is dead following a crash Friday evening.

It happened at 6:14pm State Route 376 near milepost 10 in Morgan Township.

A news release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol says 64 year old Michael Apperson was driving southbound on State Route 376 on a motorcycle when he was hit from behind by a 2002 Ford Explorer.

The Explorer was driven by 56 year old Walter Erwin.

Apperson was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident and was pronounced dead at the scene. Erwin was not injured.

The news release says that alcohol does appear to be a factor in the crash which remains under investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol Crash Recronstruction Unit, Mcconnelsville Police Department, Morgan County Sheriff's Office, Malta & McConnellsville Fire Department and the Morgan County Prosecutor's Office all responded to the crash.
