MARIETTA OH, (WTAP)- The AARP Safe Driving Program is offered at the O’Neill Center with licensed instructors to teach the class.
It is offered about twice a year, and while the class doesn’t involve actual driving, it requires completion of the four hour course to earn a certificate.
Organizers of the event believe that the course serves as a refresher to many drivers.
“Often times that’s the hardest thing for seniors as they age, to give up that driving. So this is just another way to really help them keep their independence and it’s a good program that we can offer here,” explains Nancy Matheny, activities and program planner at the O’Neill Center.
The center also notes that seniors who take this class may also receive a discount on their insurance after earning a certificate. While the class is aimed for drivers over the age of 50, anyone is eligible to sign up.
If you are interested in signing up for a future course, you can contact the O’Neill Center for more information.
