GALLIPOLIS, Ohio - The Ohio State Highway Patrol says a checkpoint for drunk drivers will be held in Meigs County on the evening of Saturday, April 29.

The OVI (Operating a Vehicle while Impaired) checkpoint, funded by federal grant funds, is planned to deter and intercept impaired drivers.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, in 2016, 392-OVI-related fatal crashes in Ohio killed 430 people.

State troopers say they arrest an average of 25,000 drunk drivers each year, statewide.
