VIENNA, W. Va. (WTAP) - Over 100 golfers split into 28 teams helped raise over $30,000 at the annual S.W. Resources Golf Classic at Parkersburg Country Club Monday.
The weather was beautiful for a day on the greens. Proceeds from the event go toward S.W. Resources and the Glenn Wilson Memorial Scholarship.
S.W. Resources is a non-profit that helps those with disabilities find jobs.
The scholarship is in memory of the late Wilson, who was a weatherman at WTAP for decades. It helps aspiring young journalists going to college.
S.W. Resources CEO Terah Klein says everyone looks forward to this event every year.
"You know early May, people are excited to get out on the golf course and have a great round. We're lucky today that it's sunny and hopefully the rain will continue to hold off but it's just a great day to be out here," she said. "Everyone enjoys getting a day out on the golf course and gets to do it guilt-free because they're doing for such a great cause."
Superior Toyota donated a car for anyone who could sink a hole in one on hole two, but no one was that lucky.
Traditonally, there are cash prizes for first, second and third place teams. But because the rain interupted play, teams voted to donate all proceeds to the causes.
WTAP and Wesbanco co-sponsored the event.
