Parkersburg Art Center looking for participants in original artwork fundraiser

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) - The Parkersburg Art Center is getting ready for a fundraiser planned for this fall. It's a "6 by 6" event featuring all original artwork.

The gallery now has the 6 by 6 blank canvases available for free at their front desk for people to pick up and design. You can make your creation in 2D or 3D and it can be any form of media. The Art Center is also working with area high school art classes to design some of the canvases.

The canvases will be due back to the Art Center on October 15th, and will go on sale for their fundraiser event in November and remain on sale through the holidays.

Last year their goal was to display 1,000 canvases, but had 2,500 submitted.

"It was a very exciting time, we filled our gallery with artwork, it was just beautiful. The colors were just fabulous, it was just an ‘oh wow’ event and we're excited to have it again.” Explains Dorsey Northrup, the event chairwoman.

She adds, “It's just a wonderful surprise to give someone as a piece of original artwork. It’s a wonderful way to start your own artwork collection, very affordable way to hang original art in your own home."

All finished canvases will be sold for $20 in the fall. Custom frames will be available from their framing gallery.
