Parkersburg Police Chief Joseph Martin says James C. Hendershot, 65, died of blunt force trauma to the head.
The criminal complaint states James T. Hendershot, the victim's son, struck his father. The victim crawled into a room inside the Liberty Street residence and died laying against the door. The victim was deceased for several days based on initial observations.
The suspect remains at the North Central Regional Jail on a $100,000 bond.

Parkersburg Police have charged a man after his father was found dead in their Liberty Street home on Thursday.
34-year old James T. Hendershot was arraigned Friday morning before a Wood County Magistrate.
Police Chief Joe Martin says he will be charged with one count of concealing a deceased human body.
He is being held in the North Central Regional Jail on a $100,000 bond.
Police say further charges may be filed.
Police say, based on the initial investigation, Hendershot struck his father, James C. Hendershot, sometime last week.
His father barricaded himself in his bedroom, where he died.
Police, who were called to the scene at 4:25 P.M. Thursday, found the elder Hendershot's body.
Investigators say the son had been staying at his father's home on Liberty Street at the time of the victim's death.
Investigators say the temperature inside the home was 58 degrees.
The West Virginia Medical Examiner's office is performing an autopsy to determine the exact cause of James C. Hendershot's death.
