Pleasants County Animal Shelter not accepting new animals until July 30th

PLEASANTS COUNTY, W.Va. (WTAP) - The Humane Society of Pleasants County says its Animal Shelter is temporarily not accepting new animals, because it has too many animals to take care of right now.

The news comes after the Humane Society rescued more than 200 abused animals last week from 54-year-old Darlyn Fleming, of St. Marys, who is charged with 5 counts of animal cruelty - one charge for every type of animal found on her property.

Investigators say Fleming had over 200 animals that she was trying to care for on her property. Over 80 of them were severely malnourished, with their ribs showing in many cases.

The Humane Society of Pleasants County says its shelter is closed to new animals until July 30th.

The shelter also says it need more volunteers to care for the animals, because the shelter is short-staffed.

If you’d like to adopt an animal or volunteer at the shelter, call the Humane Society of Pleasants County at 304-684-2273, or contact them on Facebook.
