Randy Travis to return to Marietta 30 years later

MARIETTA, Ohio (WTAP) It's been nearly three decades since country-music legend, Randy Travis, graced the stage at the old Colony Theatre.

Now, he's coming back.

The Peoples Bank Theatre announced "A Musical Salute to Randy Travis," on Tuesday.

He performed at the Colony Theatre, now known as the Peoples Bank Theatre, on September 16, 1986, just as his career was taking off.

On September 15 he will return to the theatre, but he won't be performing due to a stroke he had three years ago.

Instead, it will be "The Randy Travis Band" with a guest vocalist and two members of "The Breeze," who opened up for Randy the first time at the theatre.

"To go full circle, 30 years, come back to the same venue, almost on the same day. One day from the same exact date, it's just phenomenal. It's a dream come true for me. I've been in touch with Randy and his wife, and although he won't be able to perform, he will still be here in person," says VP of Rick Modesitt & Associates and member of "The Breeze," Chuck Lipps.

Travis is being inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame this year.

Tickets to the show go on sale August 24.
