PARKERSBURG, W.Va.-(WTAP) Local bikers got their motors running, to help out their four-legged friends.

The parking lot at Rural King, in the Park Shopping Center, was the home early Sunday afternoon of the first motorcycle fundraiser, for the Humane Society of Parkersburg.

The HSOP is seeking donation to expand its animal shelter. Supporters hope that expansion will help in the treatment of dogs and cats with behavioral problems.

"The expansion is going to allow for more space, and it's going to allow for a more sanitary building," says shelter employee Christopher Ray, "so we'll be able to control any type of sickness, ailments, illness, and also to isolate them a little better when they come in."

Prizes were awarded for the best motorcycles entered in the display.

Two weeks ago, the Parkersburg shelter was quarantined, after the discovery of cases of distemper among animals.

Officials tell us it's hoped the shelter will reopen some time this week.
